Hildreth Institute co-host an expert panel with uAspire and OneGoal

On January 31st 2024, the Hildreth Institute’s Dr. Bahar Akman Imboden presented her research findings on a panel discussion we co-hosted with UAspire and OneGoal at the State House in Massachusetts. 

Central to our mission of enhancing accessibility and affordability in higher education, we emphasized the critical role the State can play in integrating college guidance with FAFSA filing support, and starting this process early in high school. Research shows that this ensures that all students are well-informed to make educated decisions about their college futures. Additionally, we mapped out the financial framework required for the success of these programs, stressing the importance of recognizing that not all schools currently have the capacity to offer this vital support and guidance to their students. The panel included Amanda Seider from One Goal, Noah Berger from the Massachusetts Teachers Association, Jay Ash from Massachusetts Competitive Partnership and John White who served as Louisiana State Superintendent of Education from 2012—2020.

The panel discussion was entitled: Universal FAFSA: Policy to Promote College Access, discussing An Act to facilitate additional financial student assistance. Sponsors of the bill including Representative Vargas, Representative Tyler, and Senator Comerford spoke on their belief that graduating high school students should be required to complete applications for federal and state higher education financial aid.
